RESOLUTION 1999-5

 

WHEREAS, Jean L. Leipold has served the Andrew Carnegie Free Library with distinction for nearly twenty years;

 

As President of the Friends of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library, she was instrumental in reactivating the Friends group[Founded in October of 1949 by Mrs. George Z. Hosack, wife of one of the Library's original Ex-Officio Trustees(who later became a Life Trustee and the Library Board's second President), appointed by Andrew Carnegie] and helping the Library remain open. This resulted in receipt of the Award of Merit, from the Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries on October 15, 1981, "Granted in recognition as the most effective library citizen support group and for its contribution to the development and improvement of library services in the local community and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania;"

 

During the three periods of time she served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library, she helped solve numerous crises and was tireless in her support of the Library. During other times, as a Board member, she also served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Board;

 

AND, WHEREAS, Jean L. Leipold has indicated her intention to retire from service to the Library, from her recent letter of resignation from the Library Board of Trustees;

 

AND, WHEREAS, the Andrew Carnegie Free Library has conferred the title of Library Trustee Emeritus upon certain former Library Trustees including Victor G. Clay, Jr., John Chasky, John H. Duff, Edward F. Ende, Blair G. Huddart, James W. Knepper, Jr., Joanne McGarry, and Adele Stark, for outstanding service to the Andrew Carnegie Free Library;

 

AND, WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Jean L. Leipold, in service to the Andrew Carnegie Free Library, make her fully qualified to receive the title of Library Trustee Emeritus of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, with immense gratitude for her many years of service to the Andrew Carnegie Free Library, the Board of Trustees of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library does hereby confer the title of Library Trustee Emeritus of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library upon Jean L. Leipold, with all of the rights and privileges such designation bestows, for all time.

 

RESOLUTION 1999-5 approved this 26th day of October, in the year of the Centennial of Andrew Carnegie's Declaration of Trust Agreement, which legally founded the Andrew Carnegie Free Library, A.D. 1999, by the Board of Trustees of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library.
