Good morning, I am Glenn A. Walsh of 633 Royce Avenue, Mt. Lebanon. Today, I am representing no formal organization.

Today, you will be asked to support self-determination by Pittsburgh city neighborhoods. That is the real issue.

Specifically, today you will be asked to support self-determination for the Mt. Washington neighborhood, by supporting the veto of the rezoning of a property on Virginia Avenue, issued last week by Mayor Tom Murphy. By this veto, the Mayor has shown that he supports self-determination of neighborhoods.

If self-determination for the Mt. Washington neighborhood is not supported in this Council today, where will this all end? One day, there will be a neighborhood in your district that wishes self-determination. Will their pleas also be ignored by this Council?

Self-determination by Pittsburgh city neighborhoods, by itself, is a prime reason to support Mayor Tom Murphy’s veto today.
