HISTORIC HAZELWOOD LIBRARY BUILDING MAY BE ABANDONED

COME TO PUBLIC MEETING TO VOICE YOUR OPINION

Carnegie Library has proposed abandoning historic Hazelwood Branch Library building, which includes a beautiful stained-glass dome over the original mahogany circulation desk. It is one of the few libraries which has a 250-seat auditorium. Hazelwood has one of the original libraries built by Andrew Carnegie; it opened on August 15, 1900. This building is the jewel of Hazelwood!

Carnegie Library proposes to move the Hazelwood Branch Library to a smaller rental unit, on the second floor of a building a few blocks away. The historic Hazelwood Branch Library building would then be boarded-up and become another abandoned building in Hazelwood—and, eventually, it may be torn-down.

Carnegie Library management has scheduled a public meeting on this proposal on Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at the Hazelwood Branch Library, located at 4748 Monongahela Avenue, near Hazelwood Avenue. This is two short blocks up the hill, from the intersection of Second Avenue and Hazelwood Avenue.

Come to this meeting and express you views on this important issue. Help ensure that Hazelwood does not lose this historic library building and gain another abandoned building in the neighborhood.
