Good morning. I am Glenn A. Walsh of 633 Royce Avenue, Mount Lebanon. Today, I represent no formal organization.

Attention residents of Hazelwood, Glenwood, Glen Hazel, Greenfield, and Hays—and anyone who uses the Carnegie Libraries. There will be a very important meeting, regarding the future of the beautiful and historic Hazelwood Branch Library building next Tuesday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the Hazelwood Branch Library.

Carnegie Library has proposed to abandon the historic Hazelwood Branch Library building and move the Hazelwood Branch Library to a smaller rental unit, on the second floor of a building a few blocks away. If this would come to pass, the historic Hazelwood Branch Library building would be boarded-up and become another abandoned building in Hazelwood—and, eventually, it may be torn-down.

The historic Hazelwood Branch Library building was one of the original library buildings built by Andrew Carnegie. It opened on August 15, 1900.

The historic Hazelwood Branch Library building includes a beautiful stained-glass dome above the library’s original mahogany circulation desk. The historic Hazelwood Branch Library building is one of the few library buildings that has a 250-seat auditorium!

All of this would be lost if Carnegie Library is allowed to abandon the historic Hazelwood Branch Library building. This building is the jewel of Hazelwood!

This is not a done-deal. The management of Carnegie Library has scheduled a special meeting to hear from the residents of the neighborhood, regarding this issue. If you want to have your say on this important issue, it is very important that you attend this meeting!

The meeting will be held next Tuesday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the historic Hazelwood Branch Library building, located at 4748 Monongahela Avenue, near Hazelwood Avenue. This is two short blocks up the hill, from the intersection of Second Avenue and Hazelwood Avenue.

Come to this meeting and express you views on this important issue. Help ensure that Hazelwood does not lose this historic library building and gain another abandoned building in the neighborhood.

Once again, this important meeting will be held next Tuesday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the historic Hazelwood Branch Library building, located at 4748 Monongahela Avenue, near Hazelwood Avenue. This is two short blocks up the hill, from the intersection of Second Avenue and Hazelwood Avenue.
