CITY Carnegie is focus of magazine article The life of philanthropist Andrew Carnegie is the cover story for this month's issue of Cobblestone. The national children's magazine includes articles regarding Carnegie's early days in Pittsburgh, the rise of his steel empire and the Homestead strike of 1892. The issue also includes photos of several Pittsburgh landmarks taken by Lynne S. Comunale, a Pittsburgh-area photographer. This month's issue of Cobblestone marks the 100th anniversary of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library's declaration of trust agreement. That agreement legally established the library, located on Beechwood Avenue in Carnegie. The library officially opened to the public on May 1, 1901, and was the fourth free public library constructed and endowed by Carnegie. Cobblestone is one of seven children's magazines published by Cobblestone Publishing Co. of Peterborough, N.H.
