RETIREMENT OF CARNEGIE LIBRARY DIRECTOR

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY TO HIRE TRAINED LIBRARIAN

AND COME BACK INTO COMPLIANCE WITH STATE LAW

Pittsburgh, Oct. 5 – “With the planned retirement of the current Library Director, of The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, the Library now has a golden opportunity to hire a trained librarian, as Library Director, and, in this regard, come back into compliance with State Law.” This statement was the beginning of a letter to Frank J. Lucchino, Chairman of the Executive Committee of The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, from Glenn A. Walsh.

According to a prepared statement delivered by Mr. Walsh, before Pittsburgh City Council, “In general, Title 22 of the Pennsylvania Code requires all State-funded public libraries, which have a service area population of 20,000 or greater, to have a head librarian who has, at least, acquired a Masters degree in Library Science.”
